Why Have a Combined Autism and ADHD Assessment?

Autism and ADHD can occur together, and some experiences may be difficult to understand by looking at either condition alone. For example, someone may seek routine and predictability while also finding organisation difficult, or feel both drawn to and exhausted by social interaction.

A combined assessment explores both possibilities within the same clinical process. We consider developmental history, current experiences, strengths, support needs and other factors that may explain a person’s difficulties. The aim is to reach a careful understanding of the whole person, whether the outcome is a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, both, or neither.

Following the assessment, you receive an integrated report that explains the conclusions and provides practical recommendations relevant to home, education, work or daily life.

What Happens During a Combined Assessment?

1. Initial screening consultation
We begin with a 90-minute consultation to discuss your concerns, developmental history and what you hope to gain from an assessment. We advise whether a full combined assessment appears appropriate and provide a brief summary report.

2. Full diagnostic assessment
If you decide to proceed, we gather and review information relevant to both autism and ADHD. This may include clinical interviews, questionnaires, developmental information and observations, with the approach tailored to the person’s age and circumstances. For a child, information from parents and school will also be more closely considered where appropriate.

3. Feedback and written report
We explain the assessment findings and answer your questions in a feedback session. You receive an integrated written report setting out the diagnostic conclusions, clinical understanding and practical recommendations.

Appointments take place at our Lincoln clinic or online where clinically appropriate. We will discuss the suitable format with you before booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can autism and ADHD be assessed at the same time?

Yes. A combined assessment considers both within one clinical process. This can be helpful if you recognise characteristics of both autism and ADHD, or if earlier explanations have not fully accounted for your or your child’s experiences.

What if the assessment identifies only autism or only ADHD?

A combined assessment does not assume that both diagnoses will be made. The report will explain the evidence considered, the conclusions reached for each condition, and any recommendations arising from the assessment.

Can a combined assessment take place online?

Online appointments may be available where clinically appropriate. Suitability depends on the person’s age, circumstances and the information needed for a thorough assessment. We will discuss whether online, in-person or a combination of appointments is appropriate before proceeding.

What does the assessment cost?

The initial screening consultation costs £450. The full combined assessment fee is £2,850 for adults or £3,150 for children. If you proceed to a full assessment within three months, the £450 screening fee is deducted from the full assessment fee. We will confirm the assessment plan and fees with you before booking.
