Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Autism Assessments FAQs at Profound Psychology in Lincoln

  • An Autism assessment is a structured evaluation that explores whether someone meets criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It includes a detailed developmental history, clinical interview, and standardised assessment tools (e.g. ADI-R and ADOS-2), carried out by a qualified clinician (e.g. a Clinical Psychologist).

  • We offer Autism assessments for adults and young people who may be experiencing differences in communication, social interaction, sensory processing, or routine and structure.

  • Our Autism assessments at Profound Psychology typically include:

    • A detailed clinical interview

    • Developmental history (including early childhood where possible)

    • Standardised assessment tools (e.g. ADI-R and ADOS-2)

    • Observation or reports from across contexts.

    • A comprehensive written report

  • The process usually involves an initial screening, followed by two appointments, followed by a detailed report. Timeframes can vary depending on individual needs and the need for observations within schools or other settings.

  • Assessments are completed by a qualified clinical psychologist, using recognised diagnostic criteria, according to NICE recommended guidelines (Gold standard). In the majority of cases, diagnoses are accepted by healthcare professionals, employers, and educational settings. Should the diagnosis be challenged, with your consent, we will provide additional information to support the diagnosis.

ADHD Assessments FAQs at Profound Psychology in Lincoln

  • An ADHD assessment explores patterns of attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity across different settings. It is based on clinical interviews, standardised questionnaires, and developmental history.

  • Yes — we provide adult ADHD assessments in Lincoln, as well as assessments for children/young people.

  • Our ADHD assessments include:

    • A detailed clinical interview (e.g. DIVA-5)

    • Review of current symptoms

    • Developmental history

    • Standardised rating scales

    • QbCheck Assessment

    • A full diagnostic report

  • As a clinical psychology service, we do not prescribe medication. If medication is appropriate, we can provide recommendations and support referral to a private psychiatrist or GP.

  • Private ADHD diagnoses are often accepted for support and workplace/educational adjustments, but some NHS services may require additional review. With respect to medication it is likely that private titration would be needed before entering a shared care agreement for your GP to prescribe medication. It is worth checking this with your GP as part of your decision making and research.
